“… I just wanna innovate
And stimulate minds
Travel the world
And penetrate the times
Escape through rhythms
In search of Peace and Wisdom
Drop some smoke signals
Letting the streets know I’m with em’”
–Common
One faithful reader of the Tribes of Kenya blog asked me about the lyrics posted above and their significance to me. Common embodies my love for Hip Hop. Above are my favorite 8 bars quoted by Common. Each bar represents a stage in the cultivation of My Garden…and metaphorically speaking, My Garden is My Life’s Purpose. The bolded lines are themes that I’ve set for each trip that I take. Recall the last blog post for my trip to Uganda, the lines “Travel the world” and “In search of Peace and Wisdom” were in bold as the trip’s theme. While in Uganda, seeds of wisdom were shared, planted, and a harvest will be reaped in Zambia in terms of community development and improvement of health.
These days I’ve lived from my suitcase more than my own house, I’ve paid with the wrong currency in a country, and I’ve worn the same pair of pants for 4 days straight.. Changing pants just hasn’t been a priority. So we will continue. In a few hours I will start my next journey, leaving Zambia headed to Nairobi, Kenya. Yes, Kenya is finally going to KENYA. But we’re not stopping there, from KENYA, I will go to Rwanda and thereafter go back to Uganda. I returned from Uganda 2 days ago but find it necessary to feel all parts of that country so I’m going back again.
One day all of this will make sense… these trips, My Garden.. even me wearing the same pants for 4 days straight. But until then, I need you to just follow me and if you have time, bring me water for these flowers growing out of my mind.
So, We Go? KENYA, Rwanda, Uganda.
